The State Bank of India (SBI) has released the notification for Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) Recruitment 2026. This is commonly known as the SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026.

Eligible candidates can apply online for the clerical cadre post. The online application process starts on 11 August 2026 and the last date to apply is 31 August 2026. The SBI Preliminary Exam is expected in September 2026, while the Main Exam is expected in November 2026.

Who Can Apply for SBI Clerk 2026?

Candidates must meet the age and education requirements given in the notification.

Age Limit

The age should be between 20 and 28 years as on 1 April 2026.

Candidates must have been born:

  • On or after 2 April 1998
  • On or before 1 April 2006

Age relaxation is available for eligible reserved categories. The notification provides:

  • OBC – 3 years
  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • PwBD General/EWS – 10 years
  • PwBD OBC – 13 years
  • PwBD SC/ST – 15 years

There are separate age-relaxation rules for Ex-Servicemen, widows, divorced women and trained SBI apprentices.

Educational Qualification

The candidate must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government.

Candidates who are in the final year or final semester of graduation can also apply provisionally. However, if selected, they must provide proof that they passed the graduation examination on or before 31 December 2026.

So, candidates from BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BCA and other recognised graduation courses can apply if they satisfy the other conditions.

Local Language Requirement

The local language requirement is important in SBI Clerk recruitment.

A candidate applying for a particular State/UT should be able to read, write, speak and understand the specified local language.

For example, the languages listed for Telangana are Telugu and Urdu.

Candidates who studied the specified local language in Class 10 or Class 12 and can produce the required marksheet or certificate do not have to take the separate local language test.

Other selected candidates may have to appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test before joining. A candidate who fails this test will not be offered appointment.

SBI Clerk Selection Process

The selection process has three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Local Language Proficiency Test, wherever applicable

The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not added to the final merit list. The final merit is based on the Main Examination, subject to the required language test and eligibility verification.

There is also a negative marking. For every wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. SBI has not prescribed minimum qualifying marks for individual sections or for the total score in the Preliminary Exam.

The Main Examination has 190 questions for 200 marks and a total time of 2 hours 40 minutes.

There is one-fourth negative marking for wrong answers in the Main Examination too. The Bank will decide the minimum aggregate qualifying marks.

SBI Clerk Salary 2026

The SBI Clerk pay scale starts from ₹24,050 and goes up according to the prescribed pay scale.

For graduate candidates, the starting basic pay is ₹26,730, which includes two advance increments allowed to graduates.

According to the notification, the total starting emoluments for a Clerical Cadre employee posted in a metro city such as Mumbai are around ₹46,000 per month, including DA and other allowances at the current rates. The actual amount can vary depending on the place of posting.

Employees are also eligible for facilities such as provident fund, pension under the New Pension Scheme, medical benefits, leave-fare and other benefits according to SBI rules.

SBI Clerk Probation Period

Selected Junior Associates will have a minimum probation period of 6 months.

During probation, new employees have to complete the e-lessons prescribed by SBI. The probation can be extended if the required lessons are not completed or if performance does not meet the Bank’s expectations.

SBI Clerk Application Fee

The application fee is:

  • General/OBC/EWS: ₹750
  • SC/ST/PwBD/XS/DXS: No fee

The fee is non-refundable. Candidates can pay the required fee online using a debit card, credit card or Internet Banking.
